Party & Paper Retailer was originally founded in 1986. The idea behind it was born from the former publisher’s experience in owning a party store but not having a trade magazine to read. Knowing the party industry as a fashion industry, the magazine was the first to show all products in four-color to reflect a true party atmosphere.
Today our readership is quite broad, encompassing venues from tiny independents to national chains, and paper stores like Hallmark to party specialists such as Party City. While traditionally all of these segments — large or small businesses, as well as party or paper stores — have been somewhat threatened by each other, we believe that each has something to teach the other. Each issue features material that speaks to all of them, and also gives any business in the industries we cover an idea of what the others are doing — not to mention a sense of how America is celebrating everything from milestone galas to more informal gatherings.
In order to maintain a presence in all the industries it mirrors, Party & Paper Retailer exhibits at two trade shows every year: the National Halloween & Party Show in Chicago and the National Stationery Show in New York City. The magazine also is distributed at all the major gift shows around the country, in addition to the All-Candy Expo.
